Danny DaCosta, shown here in Centerfield Saturday, scored the winning run in an Elmora Youth League baseball game played because Danny wanted to win one for his father, Carlos DaCosta, Sr., who has been missing since terrorists attacked the World Trade Center last week

ELIZABETH -- Carlos DaCosta, of Elizabeth, worked on the 82nd floor of the World Trade Center for the Port Authority. Since the attack, he has been missing.

"His wife told me that he was last seen on the 70th floor helping other people exit the building," said Ralph Abbate, President of the Elmora Youth League where Carlos was a long-time coach.

"He coached the Elmora Youth League Giants in the spring 2001 season and the 13 year old summer All-Star Team that participated in the Surburban League run by the Millburn Short-Hills Little League," Abbate said.

Carlos and Rita DaCosta have two sons, Carlos Jr, 13 and Daniel, Age 10.

In a clear example of the American spirit, on Saturday night, the EYL 10-year-old fall baseball team played a game vs. the Hudson Rockets with Daniel DaCosta in Centerfield.

According to Team Manager Tom Nicastro, they decided to play the game because Danny wanted to win the game for his father.

After Danny successfully stole second and third base, but was thrown out in an attempt to steal home during the first inning, EYL was down 3-0.

The team continued to fall behind 8 to 2, but they battled back in the fifth inning. Pitcher Michael Mason shut down the Rockets in the 5th and 6th innings to earn the win. Danny scored the winning run.

"I never seen a kid so happy in my life," said Abbate. "He was thrilled that he had helped the team win the game."

Danny was given a game ball for his efforts.
